The St Lucia Wetlands are an enormous complex of shallow lakes, dunes, coastal forests and pristine beaches, and are a mecca for fishermen, campers and all nature lovers. The nearby resort town has excellent accommodation and other holiday facilities. The St Lucia Wetlands are an aquatic wonderland of magnificent scenery that carries a whole abundance of plant and animal life. This is made up by a medley of rivers, lakes, mangroves, swamps, grasslands, fresh water pans and sand dunes, and there is a spectacular reef just offshore.

The 38000 hectare Lake St Lucia occupies a large part of the Forest Reserve, which supports the Nile crocodile, hippo, rhino, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck, kudu, nyala, impala and many more. Here you have a choice of diving on the reef or exploring miles and miles of pristine beach, sand dunes and coastal forest. The 260000 hectare park is one of the world's most important wetlands. The St Lucia Wetlands park is famous for its bird life, including thousands of water birds such as flamingoes, pelicans, herons, terns, ducks and geese.
